Texas A&M has landed their first recruit of the 2017 class, and boy is it a big one. 5-star quarterback Tate Martell plays for Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, Nevada. He is considered a dual-threat quarterback, but don’t let that fool you on his ability to sling it. In 2014, he passed for 2,537 yards and 40 touchdowns while only getting intercepted twice. On the ground, he added 433 yards and 5 rushing touchdowns.
Tate enters his junior season with high expections. Bishop Gorman has won six consecutive state titles and has the pieces in place to win another one. In fact, it isn’t just Martell that the Aggies are interested in. Bishop Gorman’s roster includes two other 5-star talents that have college coaches stopping in constantly. Both WR Tyjon Lindsey and DT Haskell Garrett received A&M offers two weeks ago and are highly considering joining their quarterback in College Station.
One thing is certain though, Kevin Sumlin could not have kicked off the 2017 recruiting class any better.
