In just a 4 day span, Sumlin received commitments from three 2016 recruits. Perhaps even more impressive was that all three hailed from different states; one from Tennessee, one from Louisiana, and naturally one from Texas. The three new coaching hires this offseason all played a lead role in landing these recruits.
The first “YESSIR!” arrived on Friday evening. Tyrel Dodson out of Franklin, TN arrived in College Station on an unofficial visit and liked what he saw. More importantly, he liked his recruiter and future position coach, John Chavis. The consensus 4-star middle linebacker is a huge addition at a much needed position.
The momentum continued on Sunday afternoon with Colton Prater’s commitment. New offensive line coach, Dave Christenson, saw a great deal of talent and smarts in this offensive guard when he was at Utah. He pushed the coaching staff to offer the 3-star out of Louisiana and earned his commitment.
Finally, Aaron Moorehead notched his first commitment since arriving on staff. The Aggies hosted a recruiting camp on Sunday and made several new wide receiver offers following it. Among them was Kendrick Rogers who impressed at camp and has a big frame at 6’4” 185lbs.
At this time, the Aggies have 11 commitments and are currently #14 nationally according to 247. The 2016 class has one 5-star, four 4-stars, and six 3-stars.
