Give us your tired and weary running backs. We’ll take them all. Keith Ford is just the latest running back to transfer into A&M joining Brandon Williams who also came from Oklahoma and Tra Carson from Oregon.
More importantly, he is likely the most talented of the bunch. At 5’11” 202 lbs, Ford gives the Aggies both a powerful and speedy back that will compliment James White in 2016 and beyond. His transfer from OU requires him to sit out this upcoming season. But his eligibility will come at just the right time.
As senior running backs Tra Carson and Brandon Williams enter their final season, Ford will provide the Aggies two experienced running backs to lean on in 2016. James White, a powerful bruiser back, will be expected to be the workhorse. He had an impressive spring camp and will likely take on an increased role this upcoming season. Meanwhile, Ford will be the “lightning” to White’s “thunder”.
The transfer of Keith Ford will fill in the gaping gap of running backs on A&M’s roster. James White was the only running back taken in the 2013 and 2014 recruiting classes. Consequently, he was likely going to be the only running back with significant game time experience in 2016. Ford’s transfer allows the coaching staff to redshirt incoming freshmen Jay Bradford and Kendall Bussey and slowly work them into the rotation.
Ford is truly an all-purpose back. At OU he was used in both the running and passing game working his way towards 526 yards and 6 touchdowns over two seasons. Additionally, he caught 11 passes for 140 yards and 1 touchdown. All of this production came before a foot injury that sidelined him most of last season.
After he sits out in 2015, Ford will be eligible for the following two seasons.
