Sophomore Kenny Hill has requested his release from A&M and is expected to transfer. Early reports have him interested in heading to TCU where he can be close to home (Southlake). Another possibility would be Texas Tech where he already has a relationship with coach Kliff Kingsbury given their time together at A&M.
Following the departure of Johnny Manziel, Kenny Hill and Kyle Allen dueled all offseason for the starting quarterback position. With a race that was nearly “too close to call”, the coaches opted for Kenny and his experience. Hill did not disappoint in his first start against South Carolina setting and A&M single game passing yards record and drubbing a top 10 team 52-28.
He proceeded to lead the team to a 5-0 record with wins against 3 cupcake non-conference opponents and an overtime win against Arkansas. Then the wheels came off as A&M suffered 3 straight losses capped off by an embarrassment in Tuscaloosa. Consequently, Kyle Allen earned the chance to start the following game against ULM and he never looked back.
Kenny Hill tallied 2,649 yards and 23 touchdowns in just 8 games this past season. At the time he was benched, he actually led the conference in passing yards. He will be remembered at A&M for his incredible performance at South Carolina, the subsequent “Kenny Trill” nickname that followed, and unfortunately a few off field incidents.
Good luck to Kenny wherever he may end up.
