Recruiting Target: Ricky DeBerry

We continue our recruiting series that highlights the top 2015 recruiting targets that Texas A&M is still looking to land. There are 5-7 spots left and several elite prospects in the fold. So far, we have covered Malik Jefferson, Kendall SheffieldKirk Merritt, and Christian Kirk.

RickyDeBerryFor the 2015 class, the Aggies already have commits from 4 linebackers (Landis Durham, Riley Garner, Claude George, and Richard Moore). But with Durham playing his senior season at defensive end, the Aggies may choose to keep him there in college. This leaves the Aggies with 3 linebackers and the need for at least 2 more. The dream scenario would be for the Ags to land both Malik Jefferson and Ricky DeBerry while retaining the commitment from the others.

DeBerry is 6’2” 240lbs and would most likely project at middle linebacker for A&M. He has a 4.63 40, a 35” vertical, a 320lbs bench press, and a 510lbs squat. The explosive playmaker does a great job of shedding blockers and getting to the ball carrier. That being said, his size might be his greatest asset in that it he is already equipped to play immediately at the next level.

The 4-star recruit out of Richmond, Virginia is genuinely interested in joining the Aggies. He took one of his official visits to A&M for the Ole Miss game. And despite the loss, he left impressed.

If the Aggies can close on this elite linebacker, it will help resolve many of the depth issues they faced this season. He already has the size and speed to make a difference. And given the Aggies need at linebacker, his commitment is a major priority.
