Coach Sumlin landed another commit right before Saturday’s game. This time it was 3-star offensive lineman Erik McCoy out of Lufkin, Texas. The versatile interior lineman checks in 6’5” and weighs 305 lbs. He joins Trevor Elbert, Connor Lanfear, and Keaton Sutherland giving the Aggies their 4th offensive lineman as well as their 21st commit for the 2015 class. McCoy held offers from Kansas, Houston, and Oklahoma State among others. However, he jumped at the opportunity to play for the Aggies committing very shortly after being offered.
Erik McCoy had a great showing at the Houston Nike Training Camp last spring earning himself offensive line MVP and a spot on the All-Combine Team. At that event, he posted a 5.19 40, 5.09 shuttle, and 26” vertical. With solid strength and the ability to absorb some of the top defensive tackles, McCoy projects at center for A&M and could be in line to step into Mike Matthews shoes. McCoy’s commitment continues A&M’s presence in East Texas where Daylon Mack, Justin Dunning, Larry Pryor, and Roney Elam are also from.
