Listen, here’s the thing. If you can’t spot the sucker in the first half hour at the table, then you ARE the sucker.
This was me years ago. Having learned this exciting game called Texas Hold ‘Em, I headed to a Winstar Casino for my first game of high stakes poker. After all, how different could it be from those friendly house games? I quickly found out that I was way out of my league and rode home on an empty wallet.
Last week brought back eerie memories of that night so long ago. I made my college football picks with confidence, only to find out a few days later that I lost 6 of my 8 picks. A blind monkey could do better than that. My counter-party, Jonathan, crushed me WINNING 6 out of 8. If you’re having trouble deciding what to bet on this week, just scroll through his choices.
Last week, we had A&M (-33) over SMU, Missouri (-13) over Indiana, South Carolina (-21.5) over Vanderbilt, and Alabama (-14.5) over Florida. We finished the day 50% winning the A&M and Alabama games. Not bad, but not great either. Mizzou inexplicably laid a goose egg against Indiana while South Carolina let a really bad Vandy team stick around for 4 quarters.
Nevertheless, a new week of football means new picks. And this week, we have 3 winners for you.
- South Carolina – Fun fact: South Carolina is the only team in the nation to beat 2 currently ranked teams (#12 Georgia and #23 East Carolina). Sure makes A&M look even better, doesn’t it? Well they should have no trouble taking care of Mizzou at home. Missouri is coming off of an embarrassing loss to Big10 basketball school Indiana. And although South Carolina struggled a bit against Vanderbilt last week, that is most likely because they were looking ahead to this week’s matchup. South Carolina will have no problem covering here.
- Auburn – Last week was the first game that Gus Malzahn has not covered since coaching at Auburn. And who spoiled his Vegas run? None other than Bill Snyder, a man notorious for beating the spread himself. Well Auburn escaped Manhattan with a victory, and Malzahn gets a chance to redeem himself. Look for the Tigers to pick up right where they left off and exploit a pourous Louisiana Tech team that just lost to Northwestern St.
- Georgia – Love this matchup with Tennessee at Georgia. Georgia bounced back from a heartbreaking loss to South Carolina by crushing Troy 66-0. The point spread was -40 on that game and I lost by over 3 touchdowns. Don’t expect them to slow down this week. Tennessee is definitely improved over last season but struggled a great deal when facing their first real test in Oklahoma. That final score read 34-10, OU. This game might be close in the first half, but Georgia is looking for style points ever since their loss to South Carolina. If they have the opportunity to win by 3-4 touchdowns, they will.
