A&M has picked up a solid commitment and filled a huge area of need. 2015 Cornerback Roney Elam announced his intention to play at Texas A&M giving the Aggies their 20th recruit, but just their 2nd cornerback. His decision could get the ball rolling with a couple other key cornerback recruits. Coach Sumlin and staff are also heavily recruiting the likes of Kendall Sheffield and Kris Boyd who are #2 and #12 respectively in the latest Best of Texas edition. Elam’s commitment should help give the Aggies momentum in pulling together their best secondary class in decades.
Elam is a rangy corner at 6’3” 170lbs. who checks in as the 25th best cornerback in the nation and the 33st best player in Texas according to 247Sports. Over the past two seasons at Newton, he combined for 80 tackles, 11 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles. The 4-star recruit has an impressive offer list from the likes of Alabama, Baylor, LSU, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M along with several others. But with his commitment, A&M continues its streak of landing top talent out of East Texas. Furthermore, Sumlin continues his streak of recruiting wins over Charlie Strong bringing the count to 14 of 16 head-to-head wins for the 2015 class alone.
