DaMarkus Lodge, the top receiver in Texas, has officially committed to Texas A&M! The low profile announcement took many people by surprise. Originally, Lodge was set to announce his decision with teammate Richard Moore today. The 5-star reciever had narrowed down his massive offer list to Baylor, LSU, and A&M. But when 2-star teammate and QB Justin McMillan committed to LSU last week, it seemed that Lodge had a difficult decision to make; a decision that he simply wouldn’t arrive at by today. But in a surprise move, he face-timed with Coach Sumlin and made his commitment to the Ags.
Listed as the 5th best receiver nationwide, Damarkus Lodge held an enormous offer list that included the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, Clemson, Michigan, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio St, Oklahoma, UCLA, USC, and of course Texas. He is listed at 6’2” 190lbs and boasts a 32.7-inch vertical and a 4.34 shuttle time. As a junior, he hauled in 76 catches for 1,255 yards and a whopping 22 touchdowns. He is an elite deep threat and a prototypical X receiver. Lodge also carried the ball 8 times and tallied an additional 176 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Aggies are not only getting an exceptional athlete, but also a man of high character. Per Brice Jones with Texags,
In my interview coming out shortly, Lodge told me how his commitment went down today. There is a young kid that really looks up to Lodge and he’s a big A&M fan. So DaMarkus drove over to his house and FaceTimed Sumlin from there so the kid could meet and talk with Coach Sumlin.
DaMarkus Lodge’s commitment gives the Aggies their 16th commit and 3rd just this week. Recruiting momentum in Aggieland is truly at an all-time high. Furthermore, Lodge gives the Aggies 2015 recruiting class its 3rd 5-star prospect. He joins QB Kyler Murray and DT Daylon Mack to that coveted list. The Aggies currently hold commitments from the top quarterback, wide receiver, tight end, and defensive tackle in Texas. Plus they are heavy favorites to also land the state’s top linebacker and cornerback in Malik Jefferson and Kendall Sheffield, respectively. Out of the top 25 players in Texas, A&M now has commitments from 7 of them. By comparison, Baylor has 3 and Texas has 0.
