Manziel put on an absolute clinic at the A&M Pro Day. With Mike Evans, Travis Labhart, Derel Walker, Ben Malena, and Nehemiah Hicks all catching passes, he went an astounding 62-of-64. Both incompletions were catchable passes. But perhaps more importantly was that Manziel went 9-of-9 on passes over 40 yards. This should quiet any concerns about his arm strength. To up the difficulty, Johnny’s quarterback coach George Whitfield frequently simulated “chaos” by swiping a broom at him. The workout ended with a perfect 60 yard TD pass to Evans.,
While most pro days are performed in shorts and t-shirts, Manziel decided to wear shoulder pads and a helmet today. When Gil Brandt asked why, he responded “Isn’t the game played with them on?” In a day where Johnny is attempting to distinguish himself as the best quarterback available for this year’s NFL draft, this was a bold move. But it was a move that paid off. He has received praise from fans and critics alike. In attendance were 75 NFL reps for 30 NFL teams, 8 head coaches, 8 GM’s, and 1 former president.
